The War of 1971 The Independence of Bangladesh

The 7th of March 1971, The architect of the independence of Bangladesh, Seikh Mujibur Rahman gave an astonishing speech in Dhaka. He called for non-cooperation and asked people to defend themselves with whatever they have against Pakistani troops. The consciousness and spirit, which were constructed among the people by Mujibir Rahman, led the country to earn the independence in 16th December, 1971 after a horrified bloody battle of 9 months and a loss of 3 million Bangladeshis.

The night of March 25th, 1971 is known as "The black night of 25th March" to the history of Bangladeshis. The street of Dhaka was empty before eight at night. Every one was expecting something terrible to happen. As the hours passed by, the situation became heavier. Around the midnight the sound of machinegun broke the silent night. The citizens were terrified and start screaming and running with fear. Thousands of people were killed that night, and those who have been saved from the mascara run away from Dhaka and took shelter in the village near Dhaka. The outrage event didn’t only occur in Dhaka, but all the major cities of Bangladesh.

March 26th, Major Ziaur Raham and his comrades stole a radio transmitter from Chittagong Radio Station, and took the transmitter in Kalughat, a small village near Chittagong, and called all Bangladeshi to come forward and fight for their freedom led by Seikh Mujibur Rahman. People form every part of Bangladesh answered his call and came forward. Adult and youth, man and woman, people from every society stood against the vulgarism and fought for our beloved country Bangladesh. Sacrificing millions of lives, honor of many mothers and sisters, wealth, properties, they brought the freedom for Bangladesh. Today Bangladesh is an independent country in the world. We Bangladeshis are proud to call ourselves Bangladeshi. We are grateful to them, those who have sacrificed their lives for our country. We should never forget them.

We entered in a new millenium. It is our duty to tell our next generation about them, who have brought our freedom. We need to preserve the history of our nation for our future generation.

Historians filled bookshelves with books and magazines about our independent war; many documentaries have been made about 71’s war. Many publications have been documented with total honesty. Unfortunately some people has twisted the great history of our independence and published many books and articles to fulfill their political agenda. Today, the great history of our nation, compound with true and false, and it became very confusing to understand the actual fact about 71.
