The registration period for the Diversity Visa Lottery (DV-2001) which ran from noon on October 4, 1999 through noon on November 3, 1999 is now over. Winners will be selected at random by computer from among all qualified entries received during the mail-in period.

Successful applicants will be contacted by mail between April and July 2000. Only those selected will be notified by the National Visa Center. If you do not receive written notification by July 2000, then you were not selected for the DV-2001 lottery. Neither the National Visa Center nor U.S. embassies and consulates abroad will be able to provide a list of successful applicants.

The dates for the mail-in period for the next diversity visa lottery (DV-2002) have not yet been determined. You may wish to check this site again or check US State Department Visa Services starting in August 2000 for updates on the DV-2002 lottery.

The Immigration and Nationality Act provides a yearly minimum of 140,000 employment-based immigrant visas which are divided into five preference categories. They may require a labor certification from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), and the filing of a petition with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
